I have been programming music and entertaining at weddings since I was 14 years old. I'm now a veteran at age 35. I started out with some cheap equipment from a music store in downtown Chicago. I gradually upgraded after more weddings and nightclub gigs.
When I was 18, I knew I wanted to do Radio so I enrolled at Columbia College in Chicago. Someone told me the more you know how to do, the more marketable you will be. This propelled me to take other classes, not just the radio courses. I took TV, marketing, sound engineering, and web design classes. This well rounded education has helped me out immensely in this business. I started working in Radio in 1998. I've continued to do weddings and nightclub gigs along the way. I have done well over 800 weddings.
My philosophy is anyone can play music, but not everyone can program music, MC your special dances and introduction, and keep things flowing on your special night. You can find a jambox dj for $250, howvever you get what you pay for. They might have sub-par equipment that might fail during your event. Do they have back-up equipment? Probably not. I do. Do they have over 30,000 songs? I do. How about a full lighting system? I have that. Do they come dressed for the occasion? I come dressed in a tuxedo.
